AWS CEO: Embrace cloud and save your dollars…and possibly the world too

The CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS) has been courting companies around the world in an effort to further strengthen the position of the cloud.

Speaking at the inaugural keynote at the AWS re:Invent 2022 event in Las Vegas, Adam Celebski highlighted how using the cloud can be beneficial for companies concerned about their economic status.

“When it comes to the cloud, many of our customers know they have to lean in,” Selipsky said. “The cloud is more cost effective and many customers save 30% or more – if you’re looking to tighten the belt, the cloud is the place to do it.”

Cloud goals

In a wide-ranging keynote that spilled from the vastness of space to the depths of the ocean, as well as the realm of imagination, Selispky explained how AWS can be a vital partner for companies at every stage of their cloud journey.

“Managing the volume and growth of data is both a challenge and an opportunity,” he noted. “You need a full suite of tools that account for the volume and diversity of data. AWS is focused on building all of these capabilities.”

Celebski acknowledged that “working with data is hard,” and noted that the world would double the amount of data produced since the dawn of the digital age.

Data is “the cornerstone of nearly every organization’s digital transformation,” stated Selipsky, with the company’s massive suite of databases, analytics, and other tools ideally positioned to help companies of all sizes make the most of this mountain of data.

Elsewhere, Selipsky touched on issues of sustainability, which he highlighted as “the issue of our generation.”

AWS has signaled a big push toward going green in recent months, with the company announcing in re:invent that it’s looking to run on 100% renewable energy by 2025 — a goal Selipsky says is already 85% complete. The company also aims to become “water positive” by 2030 as it looks to help tackle climate change, which Selipsky points out, “is a problem for all of us.”

“We are determined to be innovative and relentless, as we work to make the cloud the cleanest, most energy-efficient way to power all of your infrastructure and business,” said Selipsky.
