‘It was just obscene’: Chris Hemsworth’s training regime for Extraction 2 sounds utterly ridiculous

Chris Hemsworth is no stranger to the challenges of attaining god-like form, but the Thor star’s training regimen for his upcoming Netflix movie seems even more ridiculous than usual.

While promoting Hemsworth’s new Disney Plus series, Limitless with Chris Hemsworth, in a recent interview with TechRadar, sports scientist and marathon swimmer Ross Edgley offered insight into the actor’s “outrageous” physical preparation for Extraction 2, which is set to release on Netflix sometime in 2023.

“When I was lucky enough to be on the set of Thor,” Edgley told us, “Chris would shoot 12 hours a day, and then eventually, he knew he had to do his rope conditioning.” [for Limitless], so it will start to disappear rope. But he did something like four movies a year – I think it was extraction [2]Thor: Love and Thunder, Spider, and [one other]. His ability to work was very great.

He grows and eats eight meals a day for Thor, and then everyone says, ‘Oh my God, we need you lean to extract. [2]because this character is a bit more [athletic]So he stopped eating a lot, and then set out to run a half marathon to lose weight. That would leave most people in bed. It was just outrageous.”

Quick diet changes and the daily half marathon? Perhaps that’s the advice our resident fitness and wellness editor, Matt Evans, should pay attention to in his marathon preparations (just kidding, Matt — save yourself!).

Even Edgley, who holds several world records for physical fitness – including the record for being the first man in history to swim the entire circumference of Great Britain (2,860 km) in just 157 days – found Hemsworth’s unwavering commitment to his film roles inspiring.

“For me, as an athlete, I’m very used to organizing my training,” Edgley explained. “I have an event. There’s a middle course for recovery. It’s all meticulously planned. And then I see Chris making 12 hour movie days and still training rope climbs.” [and everything else]. It got me thinking outside the bubble that strength and conditioning. That’s one thing I took [from filming Limitless with Chris]his work ethic.

As the name suggests, Extraction 2 is a direct sequel to the 2020 Netflix original from Sam Hargrave, and will see Hemsworth’s seemingly indestructible hero, Tyler Rake, return for another high-stakes (and always trot on the globe) special ops mission.

Not much is known about the film’s premise other than a similar official Netflix synopsis, but the operator shared a behind-the-scenes teaser for Extraction 2 in September:

As mentioned, Extraction 2 is slated to release in 2023, but no seasonal window has been made available yet. Its predecessor – one of Netflix’s best movies of the day – was released in April 2020, so there’s a chance Netflix will choose the similar approach and drop Extraction 2 in April 2023, but that’s really just speculation on our part.

In any case, we’ll be reporting on Extraction 2 and more new Netflix movies in the coming months, so stay tuned to TechRadar for the latest news.
