Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 to have much larger cover display, invisible crease

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip5, which won’t be released for a few months, may correct two major issues it still had with its predecessor, the Z Flip4. At least if today’s rumor about the matter is dying out. In the corner of the rumor is the fact that it comes from Display Supply Chain Consultants CEO Ross Young, who has been meticulous about such things in the past. In the other corner is the fact that he sometimes gets the odd thing wrong, so keep that in mind.

Anyway, we hope the Galaxy Z Flip5 does indeed come with, as Young claims, a much larger cover display. This will apparently be around 3.3″ to 3.4″, which is an order of magnitude larger than the 1.9-inch screen we currently get on the Flip4.

For what it’s worth, Oppo’s upcoming Find N2 Flip, a direct competitor to Samsung’s Flip line, was leaked earlier today with a large external display of its own. And while this one clearly dwarfs the Flip4’s, the Flip5 may catch up and even surpass its rumored 3.26-inch size.

The internal display is also slated to get an upgrade, according to Young, in the crease department. Specifically, the Flip5 is said to have a new hinge design that “will reduce seam visibility.” It’s unclear if it will also reduce crease feel, but we’ll take what we can get here.

Samsung’s Chinese competitors have long been churning out devices with less noticeable (and less noticeable) wrinkles in their foldable screens, so it’s nice to see the Korean company make some headway here. Better late than never, as they say.
